Our Story

We met during Memorial Day weekend 2004 at a wedding.  The groom was my moms best friend in high school and Dustins parents friend from college.  But never before had our families met.

I wasn't supposed to attend the wedding that weekend but weeks before the wedding I begged my parents to travel to San Francisco with them just to get out of town. My mom, called the groom to ask if there was any way that I could come to the wedding, even though RSVP's were due a few weeks earlier and I didn't plan on coming. As fate would have it, Dustin’s sister, Kelsey had recently decided not to attend the San Francisco wedding and this freed up a space for me to attend.

May 30, 2004 was the day of the wedding and Dustin and I were sat at the "kids" table at the wedding reception. I walked over to place where my place card was when Eric, a friend of both my parents and FI's parents, came over because he wanted to introduce her to a guy by the name of Dustin. The introductions went well, but there were no sparks from my end... yet! However, Dustin said he was immediately smitten. He would later say that he saw this gorgeous girl with a beautiful smile walk into the reception and knew that she was the one. At the table there were only 5 people over the age of 21 (2 of which were a couple). This left me to the mercy of Dustin and his brother, who decided that drinking games at a wedding is definitely a must!!

After a few drinks Dustin mustered up enough courage to ask my dad, if he could dance with me. My dad was shocked and extremely impressed. Dustin whisked me off to the dance floor and showed off some moves that have never been seen again ;)

We spent the rest of the evening together. We were up until 3am talking in the courtyard of thei hotel learning more and more about each other. The next day we were both on their way homes (Dustin to Oregon, and me to AZ). I was sure that Dustin would never call me again, and Dustin only responded with "If I call you, you will know how much this night meant to me." That was enough to leave me in great suspense!!

The next day he called minutes after he left for his long drive from his parents house, back to school at Oregon State. We talked almost the entire trip, and from there on we were attached to the phone!!

The next year we dated long distance and spent hours upon hours on the phone. We visited with each other almost once a month and had several "phone dates." In June 2005 Dustin moved to Arizona to be closer to me and to start a job with Intel. We have been through the most incredible adventures together and learned a lot about life. Our love continues to grow more and more each day and we are excited for the journey that God has put before us.

The Proposal

The proposal was a HUGE surprise!! On Thursday night Dustin and I met at my parent’s house for dinner. I was the last to arrive. When I walked through the front door Dustin and my mom were wearing Mickey Mouse ears and Disneyland music was playing. It didn't take long for me to figure out that something was up!! Dustin gave me a gift and said it was my Christmas gift. When I opened it up I found a HUGE Winnie the Pooh dressed as Santa Claus and tickets to Orange County - leaving the next morning!! This was my early Christmas present and a chance to visit my family from Hawaii that was spending the holidays in California.

The next morning we woke up early to fly out to California, checked in to the hotel and headed to Disneyland!! The plan was for Dustin and I to spend the morning in Disneyland and California Adventure and meet up with my family that lives in Hawaii at 2:30 in front of the castle. The park was absolutely empty, not as expected!!  We spent the morning hopping from ride to ride. Dustin kept asking me to go to California Adventure for the morning. I kept getting annoyed and couldn't understand why he wanted to leave an ideal day in Disneyland. I was getting soo frustrated with his constant request to go to California Adventure. Little did I know that my parents had arrived and were in the park waiting for the big moment!!

2:30 finally rolled around and Dustin and I headed to the front of the castle to wait for my aunt, uncle and cousins. We had one of the Disney photographers take our pictures in front of the castle. We took a few pictures and moved to the right side of the castle for more pictures. As soon as we were done the Disney photographer headed back, and Dustin took off running after him. I didn't know that he was about to propose and was asking the photographer to come back and take more pictures. He came back and whisked me across the bridge and to Snow White’s Wishing Well. He waited until no one was around and grabbed both of my hands, looked me in the eyes and told me how much he loved me. I now knew something was up!! Dustin said the most incredible words telling me how much he loved me and how he couldn't wait to begin his life with me. Then he got down on one knee and said "Will you marry me?" Of course my answer was "Yes". From that moment I haven't stopped smiling =)
